Nefertem facts for kids
Nefertem was an important deity in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believed he was a god of healing and beauty. He was also linked to rebirth.
According to an ancient Egyptian story, Nefertem first appeared as a beautiful lotus flower. This happened at the very beginning of time. Because of this, he is often shown with a lotus blossom on his head. The blue lotus flower was a special symbol of new life and rebirth to the Egyptians.
His Family
Nefertem was part of a powerful family of gods. His father was the god Ptah, who was the creator god of Memphis. His mother was the fierce goddess Sekhmet, known for her power and protection. The Egyptians worshipped Nefertem, Ptah, and Sekhmet together.
What Nefertem Represented
Nefertem was important for several reasons:
- Healing: He was believed to bring good health and help people recover from sickness.
- Beauty: He was also connected to beauty and the sweet smell of flowers.
