Discovering Key West Island Neighborhoods

Bahama Village

Bahama Village is a lively neighborhood located southwest of downtown Key West, within the historic Old Town area. It covers about 16 blocks, bordered by Whitehead, Southard, Fort, and Louisa Streets.

This area was originally home to many residents from the Bahamas, which is how it got its name. Over time, it has become a popular spot with many of the island's favorite restaurants.

You can also find the city of Key West's public swimming pool here.

The entrance sign to Bahama Village is still there, but the area shown in the picture has changed from shops to restaurants.

Casa Marina

This neighborhood is named after the famous Casa Marina hotel, built by Henry Flagler. It is bordered by United, Vernon, and White Streets, along with Atlantic Boulevard and Steven Avenue.

Duval Street

Duval Street is one of the most famous streets in Key West. It runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. This street is known for its many shops, restaurants, and lively entertainment. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Key West!

Historic Seaport

The Historic Seaport is located northeast of Fleming Street, bordered by White and Whitehead Streets. Sometimes, people call this area Seaport Heights.

The main port here is at Key West Bight. This area is full of boats, fishing charters, and waterfront dining. It's a great place to watch the ships come and go.

The Meadows

The Meadows neighborhood is bordered by White and Angela Streets, Eisenhower Drive, and Truman Avenue (U.S. Route 1). It's a quiet residential area.

Midtown

Midtown is located right in the middle of Key West island. It is generally bordered by North Roosevelt Boulevard (which is also U.S. Route 1), Leon Street, Atlantic Boulevard, and 1st Avenue.

New Town

New Town is on the eastern side of Key West island. It generally includes the part of the island that is east of 1st Street and north of Flagler Avenue. This area has more modern homes and businesses compared to Old Town.

Old Town, Key West

Old Town is the historic heart of Key West. It's famous for its beautiful old houses, many of which are made of wood and have unique architecture. This area is home to many of Key West's most popular attractions, including museums and historic sites.

Poinciana Plaza

The homes in Poinciana Plaza were built in the mid-1950s to house Navy families. They were closed for a while in the late 1980s and 1990s but reopened in 1998. The city was able to work with the Navy to take ownership of these homes. This added 154 affordable housing units, helping more people find places to live in Key West.

Truman Annex

Truman Annex is a special area that was once a naval station. Today, it's a mix of beautiful homes and historic sites. It's named after President Harry S. Truman, who often stayed here during his visits to Key West.

Trumbo Point

Trumbo Point is another area that was once part of the naval base. It's located on the northern side of Key West and is still used by the Navy today.

Upper Duval

Upper Duval is the southern part of Duval Street and the surrounding area. It is roughly bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Whitehead Street, Truman Avenue, and Vernon Avenue. This part of Duval Street is a bit quieter than the main tourist section.

White Street Gallery District

The White Street Gallery District is located in the central part of the island. It is bordered by White and Leon Streets, and Truman and Flagler Avenues. This area is known for its art galleries and creative spaces. The historic Eduardo H. Gato House is also located here.

Other Islands

Key West is surrounded by several smaller islands, each with its own purpose or community.

  • Fleming Key
  • Key West Golf Club (This area includes the Coral Hammock Condominiums and is located on the northern part of Stock Island.)
  • Sigsbee Park (Also known as Dredgers Key, this is another area used by the Navy.)
