Nelson Strait between Diego de Almagro and Ramírez Islands

Nelson Strait is a narrow waterway, also called a channel, found in the Chilean Archipelago. It is located in the Magallanes y Antártica Chilena Region of Chile, a country in South America. This area is part of the beautiful Chilean Patagonia.

The strait opens up to the Pacific Ocean in the west. You can find its western entrance at 51°40′S 75°00′W / 51.667°S 75.000°W / -51.667; -75.000 (western entrance). It is situated between two islands: Diego de Almagro Island to the north and Ramírez Island to the south.

As you move east, Nelson Strait gets wider. It becomes a shallow area with many rocks. This rocky basin leads into several other channels.
