History of Nemo
The area where Nemo is located started to be settled in the mid-1800s. At first, the community was called Johnson Station. It was named after a local settler, Jimmie Johnson.
How Nemo Got Its Name
The people living in Johnson Station wanted to have their own post office. They tried to get it named Johnson Station. However, the postal authorities suggested they use a shorter name instead.
When the residents met to choose a new name, one man had a unique idea. He suggested the name "Nemo." This word comes from the Latin language and means "no one." He explained that if Johnson's name wasn't good enough, then "no one's" name should be used. So, in 1893, a post office branch officially opened under the name Nemo.
