Neno was the starting goalkeeper for most of the 1990–91 season. He also started every game in the 1993–94 season, which was a great year because Benfica won the league championship!
Later Career and Retirement
After the 1994 FIFA World Cup, a new goalkeeper named Michel Preud'homme joined Benfica. Neno was his backup for one season. In 1996, Neno left Benfica to finish his playing career back at Vitória de Guimarães. He retired from playing football when he was 37 years old.
