Adam Michał Darski was born in Gdynia, Poland. He started playing guitar when he was eight years old. He chose the stage name Nergal, which comes from a god in ancient Babylonian stories.

Nergal is the founder, main songwriter, and singer for the band Behemoth. He started the band when he was still a teenager. He plays lead, rhythm, and acoustic guitar for the band.

In 2009, a guitar company called ESP released a special guitar designed by Nergal. It's a 7-string guitar with a unique V-shape body, named the "Hex-7".

In 2011, Nergal became a coach on the Polish TV show The Voice of Poland.

In July 2012, Nergal became a spokesperson for Demon Energy drinks in Poland. He appeared on the front of four different flavors of the drink. Nergal used most of the money from this deal to help a bone marrow donor center.

Nergal also started a music project with John Porter called Me and that Man. This project focuses on country, blues, and folk music. Their first album, Songs of Love and Death, came out in 2017. Their second album, New Man, New Songs, Same ..., Vol. 1, was released in 2020. It features other famous singers like Corey Taylor and Matt Heafy.

Personal Life

From 2009 to 2011, Nergal was in a relationship with Polish pop singer Dorota Rabczewska. They were engaged but later broke up in 2011.

In 2012, Darski officially changed his middle name to 'Nergal'.

Since 2014, Nergal has been a co-owner of three barbershops in Poland. Two are in Warsaw and one is in his hometown, Gdańsk. In 2015, he opened a nightclub in Sopot called Libation.

In August 2010, Nergal was taken to the hospital for an illness. On August 24, 2010, he was diagnosed with leukemia, a type of cancer that affects blood cells. Because of this, all Behemoth concerts were canceled.

His then-fiancée, Doda, offered to donate her bone marrow, but it wasn't a match. Many people responded to her public appeal for donors. On November 8, 2010, Nergal received a bone marrow transplant.

Nergal left the hospital in Gdańsk on January 16, 2011, about three weeks after his transplant. He needed to rest and avoid visitors to prevent infections. However, he had to go back to the hospital six weeks later because he developed an infection. By March 2011, his health was improving, and he was out of the hospital again. He said that his recovery was going as planned.
