Jeannette Josephina Maria "Netti" Witziers-Timmer (born July 22, 1923 – died January 25, 2005) was a super fast Dutch runner. She was known for her amazing sprint races. Netti became famous for winning a gold medal at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. She was part of the Dutch 4x100 meter relay team, which was a very special group of athletes.

Netti Witziers-Timmer: A Sprint Star

Netti Witziers-Timmer was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. From a young age, she showed great talent in running. She became a top athlete in sprint events. Sprinting means running very short distances as fast as you can.

Setting World Records

In 1944, Netti was part of the Dutch running teams. These teams set new world records. They broke records in two relay races: the 4x110 yard relay and the 4x200 meter relay. A relay race is where a team of runners each run a part of the total distance. They pass a baton to the next runner.

European Champion

Netti's success continued after the war. In 1946, she competed in the European Athletics Championships. This big event was held in Oslo, Norway. Netti and her teammates won a gold medal there. They were champions in the 4x100 meter relay race.

Olympic Gold in London

The biggest moment of Netti's career came in 1948. She went to the Summer Olympics in London, England. She was part of the Dutch 4x100 meter relay team. Her teammates were Xenia Stad-de Jong, Gerda van der Kade-Koudijs, and the famous Fanny Blankers-Koen.

The Dutch team ran incredibly well. They won the gold medal, becoming Olympic champions! This team was quite special for its time. All four women were married and had children. This was not common for Olympic athletes back then.

Later Life

Netti Witziers-Timmer passed away on January 25, 2005. She was 81 years old. She is remembered as an Olympic gold medalist and a true sprint legend from the Netherlands.
