Nevado Tres Cruces is a huge group of mountains, called a massif, found in the amazing Andes mountain range. This mountain group sits right on the border between Argentina and Chile.

It has two main tops, or peaks. The tallest one is Tres Cruces Sur, which is about 6,748 meters (22,139 feet) high. This makes it the 6th highest mountain in the entire Andes. The other important peak is Tres Cruces Centro, standing at about 6,629 meters (21,749 feet) tall.

Nevado Tres Cruces is actually a volcano. But don't worry, it hasn't erupted or been active for a very, very long time. It's like a sleeping giant!

Exploring Nevado Tres Cruces

First Climbers

Reaching the top of such a tall mountain is a big challenge. The first people to successfully climb to the very top of the highest peak, Tres Cruces Sur, were Stefan Osiecki and Witold Paryski. They achieved this amazing feat way back in 1937.
