New Effington is a small town located in Roberts County, South Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 234 people lived there.
The town of New Effington was created in 1913. This happened because a new railroad was planned to be built further away from the original town, which was just called Effington. So, the town had to move! They decided to add "New" to the name. The first town, Effington, was named after one of the first women, named Ellie, who settled there.
