History of New Hamburg
New Hamburg was first known simply as Hamburg. It was officially mapped out, or platted, in 1866. The community got its name from the city of Hamburg in Germany. Many of the first people who settled here came from Germany. A post office was opened in New Hamburg in 1874. It served the community for many years, finally closing in 1972.
