New Jerusalem is a small place in San Joaquin County, California. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county.
This community is about 8 miles (13 kilometers) southeast of a city called Tracy. It sits at an elevation of 59 feet (18 meters) above sea level. New Jerusalem is also home to the New Jerusalem Airport.
How New Jerusalem Got Its Name
New Jerusalem got its name from a school! The New Jerusalem School was started way back in 1874.
A local pioneer named Henry Ebe helped make this happen. His family belonged to a religious group called the Dunkard Brethren. Henry Ebe gave the land for the school, and he made sure it would be named New Jerusalem.
