History of New Market
New Market was started in 1881. This happened after the Humeston and Shenandoah Railroad built its tracks through the area. The railroad helped the town grow.
For many years, until the 1980s, New Market had rules about who could live there. These rules meant that certain groups of people were not allowed to stay in the town after sunset.
