New Market was once a small community in the state of Delaware in the United States. It was located between the towns of Ellendale and Milton. New Market was an unincorporated community, meaning it wasn't officially governed as a town or city with its own mayor or council.
What Was New Market?
New Market was centered around the New Market Church. This church was located at what is now the intersection of Holly Tree Road and Reynolds Pond Road. This spot is just east of Ellendale. The church and the homes around it formed the small community.
What's Left of New Market Today?
Sadly, the original town of New Market no longer exists. All the buildings that made up the town are gone. However, a piece of its history remains. The cemetery that belonged to the New Market Church is still there. You can find it at the same crossroads where the church once stood.
In recent years, some new homes have been built in the area. These are mostly small ranch-style houses. The only thing that still carries the name "New Market" is a nearby trailer park. It's called New Market Village and is located about a quarter-mile east of the old crossroads. This park is a reminder of the community that used to be there.
