History
New Milford has a simple but interesting past. A post office was opened here in 1857. This was a busy place where people could send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing in 1967.
Besides the post office, New Milford also had a railroad station. This was important for travel and moving goods. There was also a gristmill, which is a building where grain is ground into flour. These places were key parts of daily life in New Milford long ago.
