New Town (which was first called Newtown) is a small area, or suburb, that is part of the larger town of Kadina. You can find it on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. It's managed by the Copper Coast Council. Even though its official borders were set in January 1999, people had been calling this area "New Town" for a long time before that.

A Glimpse into New Town's History

When was New Town first settled? It's a bit of a mystery! Some say people started living here as early as 1865. But we don't have many records until 1872. Back then, people noticed that "several nice homes" were being built in the area.

What was New Town like long ago? This small suburb was once a busy place! It had two churches where people could worship. There was a factory that made soap, and two stores where you could buy things. You could also find three fruit shops, a wheelwright (someone who made and fixed wheels), and even a wine shop. New Town also had a small brick factory, a lime kiln (for making building materials), and places where butchers prepared meat.
