The New Valley Governorate is a large area in Egypt. It is one of the many parts of Egypt called a governorate. Think of it like a state or a large province.
The main city and capital of this governorate is Kharga. This city is located in the Kharga Oasis, a green area in the middle of the desert. Another name for this governorate is El Wadi El Gedid Governorate.
Geography and Size
The New Valley Governorate is the biggest governorate in all of Egypt. It covers a huge area of 440,098 square kilometers. To give you an idea of how big that is, it's just a little bit larger than the entire country of Iraq!
Most of the New Valley Governorate is part of the Western Desert. This area is known for its vast sandy landscapes and ancient oases.
Population and Life
Even though it's very big, the New Valley Governorate does not have many people living there. In January 2018, about 245,000 people lived in this huge area. This means it has a very low population density.
Most people live around the oases. These are places where water comes to the surface, allowing plants to grow. The oases provide water for farming and daily life.
