Newalla is a small community in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. The name Newalla comes from an Osage Native American word for the Canadian River. A post office was opened here on June 22, 1904.
Location and Geography
Newalla is located in eastern Oklahoma County. You can find it just west of State Highway 270 and north of Interstate 40. It's also considered part of the larger Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area, which means it's close to the big city.
Newalla is about 1,148 feet above sea level. It covers parts of both Oklahoma County and Cleveland County (sometimes called Little Axe). Some areas of Newalla are even inside the official boundaries of Oklahoma City. The estimated population of Newalla is currently around 9,514 people.

Historic School Building
Newalla is home to a special building listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history.
The building is called the Union School District 19 1/2 building. It was a two-room schoolhouse built around 1936. This school was historically for Black students. It even has a partial two-room basement made of concrete. You can find this historic school at the southwest corner of 149th Street and South Luther Road.
