The name "Newland" has an interesting story. The area where Newland now stands used to be a swamp. A swamp is a wet, marshy area with lots of water and plants. To make the land usable for homes and farms, the swamp had to be drained. This means the water was removed. Because this "new land" was created from the drained swamp, the community was given the name Newland.
