The Newport and District Football League is a football league for teams in and around the city of Newport in South Wales. It's also known as "The Monmouthshire Building Society Newport and District Football League" because of its sponsor. This league helps local football teams play against each other and grow. It was started a long time ago, in 1901! The main office for the league is at Newport Civic Centre.

Where the League Plays
The league covers a specific area around Newport. This includes the city itself and nearby parts of the historic county of Monmouthshire. Imagine a map: it stretches west to Bedwas, north-west to Abercarn and Wattsville, north-east to Sebastopol Bridge, and east to Llanwern and Nash. So, it's all about football in this part of South Wales!
Teams and Divisions
The Newport and District Football League has many teams. These teams are split into different groups called divisions. In total, there are four main divisions, plus a special Sunday division.
The top part of the league has two "Premier" divisions:
- Premier 'X'
- Premier 'Y'
Below these, there are two more divisions:
- Division One
- Division Two
Many of the teams in these divisions are "reserve" or "thirds" teams. This means they are often the second or third squads from a larger football club.
Moving Up and Down the League
In football leagues, teams can move up or down divisions based on how well they play. This is called promotion and relegation.
- The team that wins the Premier 'X' Division can get promoted to a higher league called the Gwent County League. Sometimes, if the champions don't meet certain rules (like having the right kind of football pitch), the second-place team might get promoted instead.
- Teams can also move between Division One and Division Two. The two teams at the bottom of Division One usually move down to Division Two. The two teams at the top of Division Two usually move up to Division One.
- Moving between the Premier divisions and Division One is decided by the league's main committee. They might even interview clubs that want to join the Premier Division.
