The Nexen Building is a tall office building located in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is also known as 801 Seventh Avenue S.W.
This building is a skyscraper with 37 floors. It stands about 153 meters (502 feet) tall. The Nexen Building was designed by CPV Group Architects and Engineers Ltd. It was built by CANA Construction Company Limited and finished in 1982.

A Unique Design in Calgary
The Nexen Building is special because of its design. Most buildings in downtown Calgary follow a straight grid pattern. This means they face either north-south or east-west. However, the Nexen Building stands diagonally. This makes it one of the few buildings in Calgary that does not follow the usual city layout.
The building uses a special type of floor system. It is called a composite stub-girder steel-frame system. This system helps make the building strong and stable.
Who Used the Building?
Over the years, different companies have used the Nexen Building as their main office.
Early Occupants
The first company to use the Nexen Building was the NOVA Corporation. They were the original tenants when the building opened in 1982.
Nexen's Headquarters
In the year 2000, the building became the main office for a company called Nexen. Nexen is an energy company. In 2013, a large Chinese company called CNOOC bought Nexen. After this, Nexen slowly reduced the number of employees working in the building.
The Building Today
Nexen moved out of the building in 2019. They decided to rent space in another large building nearby called The Bow. This left the Nexen Building completely empty. It became the largest building in downtown Calgary to be entirely vacant.
