Ngamatapouri is a small country area in New Zealand. It is located in the Taranaki Region, in the valley of the Waitōtara River. This quiet place is about 47 kilometers (around 29 miles) north of Waitōtara village. The city of Wanganui is about 80 kilometers (around 50 miles) to the southeast. The main road leading to the local school is paved.

The name Ngāmatapōuri comes from the Māori language. It means "the black teals," which are a type of duck.
