The Ngamba were an Aboriginal people from New South Wales, Australia. They were one of the many different Indigenous groups who lived on the continent for thousands of years.
Ngamba Language
The Ngamba people had their own language. Sadly, we don't know much about it today. This is because not much information was written down or passed on. Experts believe it was similar to the Gumbaynggirr language.
Ngamba Country
The Ngamba people lived in a specific area of New South Wales. Their traditional land covered about 900 square miles (2,300 km2). This area stretched from Port Macquarie and Rollands Plains. It went south towards the Manning River. We don't know exactly how far inland their territory reached.
The Ngamba People
By 1929, only a few Ngamba people remained. They were living alongside descendants of the Ngaku and Daingatti peoples. Historical accounts suggest that the Ngamba population greatly decreased over time. This was due to difficult events and actions by the Australian native police.
Ngamba Customs
The Ngamba people used the grey mangrove tree for its bark. They used this bark to make their military shields. This shows how they used natural resources for important tools and defense.
