Ngapala is a small country area in the Mid North part of South Australia. It's located within the Regional Council of Goyder. This area officially got its name and boundaries in August 2000. People had used the name for a long time before that. Ngapala is split between two older land divisions called the Hundreds of English and Julia Creek.

Early History
The land where Ngapala is today was first home to the Ngadjuri people. They are the traditional owners of this area.
Community Buildings
Over the years, Ngapala has had several important community buildings.
The School
A school opened in Ngapala in 1908. It was first called Anlaby Public School. The school was built on land that used to be part of Anlaby Station. Later, its name changed to Ngapala Public School. The school closed its doors in 1938. The building is still standing today and is now owned by a private person.
The Post Office
A place to receive mail, called a postal receiving office, started in Ngapala on January 3, 1913. A full post office was reported to have opened again in March 1923. It closed permanently on September 30, 1967.
The Church
The Ngapala Methodist Church was built in 1924. It served the community for many years. The church closed in 1984. Like the old school, this building also still exists and is privately owned.
Sports and Recreation
Ngapala also had its own sports clubs.
Cricket Club
The Ngapala Cricket Club played from the 1930s. They joined with the Marrabel club in 1975–76. For most of its time, the club played in the County of Eyre Association.
Tennis Club
The Ngapala Tennis Club started around 1910. It stopped being active around 1931. The club was officially closed around 1935.
Life in Ngapala
In 1933, a newspaper article described Ngapala. It said the area had "a Methodist church, school, and a post-office in a farm house." The article also mentioned that "mixed farming is the general occupation of this district." This means people in Ngapala grew different crops and raised animals.
