This area is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) north of Eudunda. It is part of the Regional Council of Goyder. Julia officially became a named place in August 2000. Its boundaries were set based on the name people had used for the area for a long time.

Community Life in Julia

Julia has a rich history of community activities and buildings. These places helped bring people together.

Early Church Gatherings

A group of people who followed the Lutheran faith started meeting in Julia in January 1910. At first, they gathered in people's homes or even in a shed used for storing wheat. Later, they built their own church, which opened in August 1911. The church building was made bigger in 1928 to hold more people.

Julia Primary School

The Julia Primary School opened its doors in 1910. It taught local children for 40 years before closing in 1950. A famous Australian author, Colin Thiele, grew up near Julia. He went to this school from 1926 to 1932.

Postal Services

Julia had a post office that opened in February 1881. However, it closed a few years later in April 1886. Later, in December 1908, a postal receiving office started. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. A local woman ran this office from a room in her house for 19 and a half years! It finally closed in July 1981.

Public Hall

A public hall is a building used for community events and meetings. Julia's first public hall opened in 1909. This hall was replaced two times. New halls were built in 1926 and again in 1958. This shows how important a gathering place was for the people of Julia.

Julia Football Club

The Julia Football Club started in 1911. The team played in different sports leagues, like the County Eyre Association and the Mid-North Association. The club took a break from playing between 1954 and 1956. Sadly, the Julia Football Club stopped playing completely in 1960.
