The Ngaun were a group of Indigenous people who lived in the state of Queensland, Australia. They are an important part of Australia's history and culture.

Where the Ngaun Lived

A researcher named Norman Tindale estimated that the Ngaun people lived on a large area of land. This area was about 9,700 square miles (25,000 square kilometers). Their traditional lands included places like Iffley. They lived east towards the Gregory Range and Saxby Downs. To the southwest, their land reached near Julia Creek. In the north, their territory extended to D Doravale. This northern area was once home to the Maikulan people.

Ngaun History and Changes

Before European settlers arrived, the Ngaun people had expanded their territory. They moved north into areas that were once part of the Maikulan people's land.

When European settlers began to establish farms and stations, the Ngaun people's lives changed. Many Ngaun people moved towards the area of Cloncurry. Those who remained and adapted to these changes eventually settled around Taldora and Millungera.
