Nicholas Arbuckle, born on October 4, 1993, is an American football player. He plays as a quarterback for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). A quarterback is like the team's leader on the field. He has also played for other CFL teams, including the Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Redblacks, and Edmonton Elks. Nick is a two-time champion of the Grey Cup, which is like the Super Bowl of Canadian football. He won in 2018 with the Stampeders and again in 2024 with the Argonauts. In 2024, he was even named the Grey Cup MVP!

Playing Football in College
Nick Arbuckle played college football before becoming a professional. He played for two different colleges.
Pierce College Years
Arbuckle started his college career at Los Angeles Pierce College. In his very first game, he threw for 404 yards and five touchdowns. That's a lot of points! In another game, he threw for an amazing 631 yards and six touchdowns. During his first season, he threw 40 touchdowns and gained 3,774 yards. He also led his team to win the Patriotic Bowl.
In 2013, Arbuckle continued to play well. He threw for 2,852 yards and 26 touchdowns. He helped Pierce College win another Bowl game. In his two years there, he scored 73 touchdowns and threw for 6,626 yards.
Georgia State University
In December 2013, Arbuckle decided to play for Georgia State. He became their starting quarterback in 2014. In his first game for Georgia State, he threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns. Even though his team didn't win many games that season, Arbuckle was recognized for his great playing. He led the Sun Belt conference in passing yards. He also broke several school records for Georgia State.
In 2015, Arbuckle had an even better year. He set a new record in the Sun Belt conference with 4,368 passing yards. He also set school records for completions and touchdowns. He was named the conference's Player of the Year. Arbuckle led his team to win four games in a row. This helped them get to their first-ever bowl game, the 2015 Cure Bowl.
Arbuckle finished his college career with 7,651 passing yards and 51 touchdowns. In 2024, he was honored by being added to the Georgia State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Professional Football Career
After college, Nick Arbuckle tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. He then moved on to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Calgary Stampeders
Arbuckle joined the Calgary Stampeders in 2017. He became the team's backup quarterback. In 2018, he played a little, throwing one touchdown and running for five more. In 2019, the main quarterback got hurt. Arbuckle stepped in as the temporary starter. He led the Stampeders to win four out of seven games. He finished that season with 2,103 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Ottawa Redblacks (First Time)
In 2020, Arbuckle was traded to the Ottawa Redblacks. He signed a two-year contract with them. However, the 2020 season was canceled. In 2021, the Redblacks signed another quarterback, and Arbuckle was released.
Toronto Argonauts (First Time)
On February 1, 2021, Arbuckle signed with the Toronto Argonauts. He started his first game for them in August 2021. He threw for 310 yards and one touchdown in a win. He started a few more games but was later replaced by another quarterback.
Edmonton Elks
In October 2021, Arbuckle was traded to the Edmonton Elks. He signed a contract to stay with them through the 2022 season. The Elks and Arbuckle had a tough start in 2022, losing their first three games. He played in five games for the Elks.
Ottawa Redblacks (Second Time)
In July 2022, Arbuckle was traded back to the Ottawa Redblacks. He competed for the starting job. He helped the Redblacks get their second win of the season. He continued as the starter for most of the rest of the season. In February 2023, he signed a new contract with Ottawa. He started the first two games of the 2023 season. He became a free agent in February 2024.
Toronto Argonauts (Second Time)
After being a free agent for a few months, Arbuckle thought about retiring. But on May 19, 2024, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts again. He started the 2024 season as a backup quarterback. In one game, he came in when his team was losing and helped them almost come back to win. In another game, he helped the Argonauts win in overtime.
In week 10, Arbuckle started a game and led the team to a 39–25 victory. He played very little for the rest of the regular season. In the playoffs, Arbuckle was the backup. In the East Final game, the starting quarterback got hurt. Arbuckle stepped in and helped the Argonauts win 30–28. This meant he would start in the 111th Grey Cup.
In the Grey Cup game, Arbuckle played incredibly well. He completed 26 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns. He led the Argonauts to a 41–24 victory! For his amazing performance, Nick Arbuckle was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player. On February 4, 2025, he signed a new contract to stay with the Argonauts.
