Nicholas Charles Dempsey (born on August 13, 1980, in Norwich) is a famous British windsurfer. He is known for winning three Olympic medals in windsurfing. This makes him the first man to achieve this! He won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and another silver at the 2012 London Olympics. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Nick Dempsey is also a two-time world champion, winning gold in 2009 and 2013. He lives in Poole, Dorset.

Nick Dempsey's Windsurfing Journey

Nick Dempsey started his international career with success early on. In 1998, he won a bronze medal at the Mistral Youth World Championships. As an adult, he achieved his first big win at the North Sea Cup Series. He also placed third at the Kiel Week competition.

Early Olympic Appearances

Nick competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics, finishing in 16th place. After that, he continued to win many competitions. These included the Athens Eurolymp Week and the Kieler Woche. His hard work paid off when he won the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Switching to RS:X Class

Later, Nick switched to the RS:X windsurfing class. He quickly became very successful in this new class. He reached the top spot in the RS:X world rankings. In 2006, he won the gold medal at the RS:X European Championships. He finished 5th at the 2006 RS:X World Championships.

Olympic Medals and World Titles

At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Nick finished 4th in the RS:X class. He was very close to winning another medal.

His dedication led to more Olympic success. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won the silver medal in the RS:X class. He finished just behind Dorian van Rijsselberge from the Netherlands.

Four years later, at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Nick won another silver medal. Again, he was second to Dorian van Rijsselberge. With these three Olympic medals, Nick Dempsey became the most successful male Olympic windsurfer ever!

In 2017, the University of Chichester honored Nick. They gave him an Honorary Doctorate of Science for his achievements.

Nick Dempsey's Family Life

Nick Dempsey was married to yachtswoman Sarah Ayton from 2008 to 2012. They have two sons together. Later, he married another yachtswoman, Hannah Mills. They have a daughter.
