Nick L. Salazar (born April 18, 1929 – died October 23, 2020) was an American politician. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the New Mexico House of Representatives for a very long time, from 1974 to 2019. He represented the 40th District.

A Life in Public Service
Growing Up and Joining the Air Force
Nick L. Salazar was born on April 18, 1929, in a place called San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico. After finishing school, he went to the University of California, Santa Barbara. Later, he joined the United States Air Force. He worked hard and became a sergeant, which is a leader in the military.
Helping His Community
Before becoming a state representative, Nick Salazar served as a county commissioner from 1964 to 1968. A county commissioner helps manage local government for a specific area.
In 1974, he was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives. This is a group of people who make laws for the state of New Mexico. He served in this role for an amazing 45 years! This makes him one of the longest-serving state representatives in New Mexico's history.
Working at Los Alamos
Members of the House of Representatives in New Mexico only receive a small payment for their daily expenses, called a per diem. Because of this, Nick Salazar also had another job. He worked as a mechanical technician at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This is a famous science and research center.
In 2013, Nick Salazar received a special award for his lifetime of contributions. It was given to him by Los Alamos National Security. This award recognized his important work and dedication.
Family and Later Years
Nick Salazar lived in Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico. He was married and had three children. He passed away on October 23, 2020, in Española, New Mexico, when he was 91 years old. He is remembered for his many years of service to the people of New Mexico.
