The Story of Nicky Deuce
Nicholas's Summer Adventure
Nicholas Borelli II is a teenager living in a quiet US small town. His life feels a bit boring. His parents are very strict about germs and what he eats. Nicholas was supposed to go to a math camp for the summer. Meanwhile, his parents planned to work in Papua New Guinea.
But the math camp was canceled! It was too hard to send Nicholas all the way to Papua New Guinea. So, he was sent to Brooklyn, New York City, instead. He would spend the summer with his grandmother Tutti and his uncle Frankie. Nicholas had never met them before.
Life in the Big City
At first, Nicholas felt overwhelmed by the busy city. He was also nervous about asking his uncle Frankie about his job. His dad had told him to stay away from Frankie. He said Frankie didn't fit in with their family.
Nicholas soon made friends with two New York teenagers, Donna and Tommy. They helped him learn how to get around the big city. As time passed, Nicholas started to suspect that Frankie might be involved with the Mafia.
Becoming Nicky Deuce
One day, Nicholas answered Frankie's private phone. He took a job for someone named Paulie. This job led him right into a world that seemed like the Mafia. Nicholas loved movies, and one of his favorites inspired him. He decided to call himself 'Nicky Deuce'.
By chance, Nicky gained some respect within the gangster group. This led to more strange jobs for him. Nicky became sure his uncle was a mafioso. He thought the jobs were meant for Frankie.
Uncovering a Secret
Nicky, Donna, and Tommy soon found out the gangster group was cheating in horse races. They were using hypnosis on their own racehorses. They would bet on these horses as underdogs. Then, with a secret word, the horse would "switch" during the race. It would win, and Paulie's gang would win a lot of money.
Tommy was accidentally hypnotized too! The teenagers decided to kidnap the racehorse. In return, the gangsters kidnapped Grandma Tutti. Nicky and his friends tried to trade Tutti for the horse, but it didn't work.
The Big Reveal
Nicky, Donna, Tommy, Tutti, Frankie, and even Nicky's parents were caught. The gangsters tied them up. Luckily, they managed to free themselves. But they couldn't stop the rigged horse race from happening.
When Paulie came to collect his winnings, Frankie finally showed his true identity. He was not a gangster! Frankie was an undercover investigator for the NYPD. He had joined the gang to expose their crimes. The gang was caught red-handed and arrested.
Nicky's dad saw Frankie in a new light and they made up. Tutti told Nicky's parents to let him have more excitement in his life. The whole group went to a dance together. Nicky and Donna even shared a kiss!
