Steven Ralph Schirripa (born September 3, 1957) is an American actor. He is well-known for his roles in several popular TV shows. These include playing Bobby Bacala on The Sopranos, Leo Boykewich on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Detective Anthony Abetemarco on Blue Bloods. Schirripa has also hosted TV series like Karma's A B*tch! and Nothing Personal. He is also the voice of Roberto in the Open Season animated movies.

Early Life

Steve Schirripa was born on September 3, 1957, in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York City. He grew up in a family with four siblings. He attended Lafayette High School and later graduated from Brooklyn College.

Career

Acting in Movies and TV Shows

Steve Schirripa first got involved in entertainment as an entertainment director at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This job led to small appearances in comedy shows. He then had a small, uncredited role in the movie Casino. In this film, he played a customer at a bar. After this experience, Schirripa decided he wanted to become an actor.

He took on several smaller roles in movies like The Runner (1999) and Joe Dirt (2001). His big break came in 2000 with the second season of The Sopranos. He played the character Bobby Baccalieri for five seasons. For the first two seasons, he wore a special suit to make his character look bigger.

Schirripa has appeared in many other television shows. These include Angel, Columbo, Star Trek: Enterprise, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and The King of Queens. He also appeared on game shows like Million Dollar Password and Pyramid.

From 2008 to 2012, Schirripa had a regular role on the ABC Family show, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. He played Leo Boykewich, who was Ben's dad. In 2009, he made a guest appearance in the Stargate Atlantis episode "Vegas". He also appeared in the 2009 TV movie My Fake Fiancé.

Schirripa has been a guest on The Tonight Show more than 40 times. He also hosted NBC's poker game show, Face the Ace, which started in 2009. In 2011 and 2012, Schirripa hosted and narrated the true-crime TV series Nothing Personal. He later hosted Karma's a B*tch!, also for Investigation Discovery.

In 2014, Schirripa played Joey on the ABC series Black Box. He also did voice acting in an episode of American Dad! and played Vito in the movie Jersey Boys. From 2015 until the show ended, Schirripa played Detective Anthony Abetemarco on the CBS series Blue Bloods.

In July 2017, Schirripa appeared on John Oliver's show Last Week Tonight. He also co-hosted a podcast called Talking Sopranos with Michael Imperioli, which started in April 2020. They shared behind-the-scenes information about The Sopranos show. In 2021, they released a book about the show called Woke Up This Morning: The Definitive Oral History of The Sopranos. Schirripa also appeared in some episodes of Dexter: Resurrection.

Books

Steve Schirripa has written a series of books. These books often feature a fun, tough Italian-American character. His first book was A Goomba's Guide to Life in 2002. He then wrote The Goomba's Book of Love (2003) and The Goomba Diet: Large and Loving It (2006). In 2013, he released Big Daddy's Rules: Raising Daughters Is Tougher Than I Look.

Schirripa also wrote two books about a suburban teenager named Nicky Deuce. These books are Nicky Deuce: Welcome to the Family and Nicky Deuce: Home for the Holidays. The second book was made into a 2013 Nickelodeon movie called Nicky Deuce. The movie starred Noah Munck and also featured actors from The Sopranos.

Theatre

On April 3, 2014, Steve Schirripa performed in a special production of Guys and Dolls. This show took place at Carnegie Hall and included other famous actors like Nathan Lane.

Uncle Steve's Italian Specialties

In 2014, Schirripa started his own business called Uncle Steve's Italian Specialties Group. He launched a line of organic vegan pasta sauces. He even appeared on The Eric Andre Show to promote his sauces.

Personal Life

Steve Schirripa married Laura Lemos on April 22, 1989. They have two daughters named Bria and Ciara. Schirripa was raised as a Catholic but also identifies with his Jewish heritage.
