Open Season 2 is an exciting 2008 animated comedy movie. It's the second film in the popular Open Season movie series. This movie was directed by Matthew O'Challaghan and Todd Wilderman. It was released on September 24, 2008. Even though some movie critics had mixed feelings, audiences really enjoyed it, just like the first Open Season film.

In the story, Boog the bear is excited to be the best man at Elliot the deer's wedding to Giselle. But the forest friends have to go on a big adventure. Their friend Mr. Weenie, a dachshund, gets captured by his old owners, Bob and Bobbie. He is then forced to become a pampered pet by the leader of the domestic pets, a tiny poodle named Fifi.

Plot Summary

Elliot is very happy and plans to marry Giselle. But during a fun moment, Elliot's big new antlers get cracked. Boog and the other animals try to cheer Elliot up. Meanwhile, Mr. Weenie finds a trail of dog biscuits. He follows them and is taken away by his old owners, Bob and Bobbie.

The wild animals decide they must rescue Mr. Weenie. Boog, Giselle, McSquizzy the squirrel, Buddy the porcupine, and the duck brothers Serge and Deni all join the rescue team.

At the same time, a group of tame pets meets up. This group includes Fifi, a small but bossy poodle, and his friend Roberto, a basset hound. There are also two cats, Stanley and Roger, and a dog named Rufus with his girlfriend Charlene.

The wild animals find Mr. Weenie. They free him from his chains. But by accident, Mr. Weenie and Buddy get stuck on an RV (recreational vehicle). The owners drive the RV to a pet camp with Mr. Weenie and Buddy still on board. Buddy tries to help Mr. Weenie escape his shock collar.

Serge and Deni return to the group. They explain that they found Mr. Weenie and Buddy at a pet camp. Boog and the others set up their own camp nearby. They reach the pet camp, but the pets and their owners have already left. The wild animals realize they've gone to Pet Paradiso. This is a special vacation spot for pets. Elliot finds Mr. Weenie and Buddy and heads to Pet Paradiso to save them.

The wild animals arrive at Pet Paradiso. They try to sneak in by dressing up as pets. Giselle pretends to be a dalmatian, and McSquizzy acts like a chihuahua. Boog first tries to be a cat, but then decides to pretend to be a sheepdog. Elliot even disguises himself as Boog's human owner.

Giselle and McSquizzy look for Mr. Weenie. But their disguises are discovered! Fifi and the other pets capture them. A big battle starts between the wild animals and the pets. The Pet Paradiso security guards try to tranquilize the wild animals.

Elliot saves Giselle. He accidentally puts a pile of shock collars on himself. Fifi grabs the remote control and turns on all the shock collars. But he doesn't realize that Elliot is wearing them all! Fifi survives, but the shock makes him lose all his hair. In the end, the pets and the wild animals become friends. Elliot finally tells Giselle how much he loves her, and they get married. During a song at the end of the movie, Elliot falls again, and his other antler breaks off!

Meet the Characters

Here are some of the main characters and the actors who voiced them:

How the Movie Was Made

Sony announced they would make a sequel in September 2007. The first Open Season movie did very well in theaters. However, Sony decided that Open Season 2 would be released directly to DVD instead of in movie theaters. This is called a "direct-to-DVD" movie.

To keep costs low, Sony Pictures Digital used facilities in India and New Mexico to help with the animation. This helped them make the movie more affordably.

Home Release

Open Season 2 was released on DVD and Blu-ray on January 27, 2009. This allowed people to watch the movie at home.

What Came Next

This movie got its own direct-to-video sequel called Open Season 3. It was released on October 21, 2010.
