Joel Edward McHale (born November 20, 1971) is an American actor, comedian, and television host. He is well-known for hosting The Soup (2004–2015). He also played Jeffrey "Jeff" Winger on the NBC TV show Community (2009–2015). Joel McHale has appeared in movies like Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Ted (2012).
He also starred in the sitcom The Great Indoors (2016–2017). He hosted a new version of Card Sharks (2019–2021). Joel played the superhero Starman on the show Stargirl (2020–2022). In 2020, he hosted a special show about the Netflix series Tiger King. He also voices Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat Legends animated movies. He voices X-PO in Lego Dimensions and The Scientist in Fortnite. Currently, he stars in the Fox comedy Animal Control. He also has a role in the show The Bear.

Early Life and Education
Joel McHale was born in Rome, Italy, on November 20, 1971. His father is American and his mother is Canadian. Joel grew up in Mercer Island, Washington. He also lived briefly in Haddonfield, New Jersey. He went to Mercer Island High School.
He earned a history degree from the University of Washington in 1995. He also got a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in acting from the same university. While in college, he was part of the rowing and football teams. He also performed in an improv comedy group called Unexpected Productions.

Hosting Many Shows
In 2004, Joel McHale started hosting The Soup on the E! network. On this show, he would make fun of funny or strange moments from TV shows each week. He was a popular host for many years.
Joel has hosted several big events. He hosted the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards. He also hosted the 2015 ESPY Awards and the 43rd People's Choice Awards in 2017. He even hosted the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 2014.
In 2018, he had his own talk show on Netflix called The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale. It featured celebrity guests and funny video clips. From 2019 to 2021, he hosted a new version of the game show Card Sharks for ABC.
Since 2020, Joel has co-hosted a podcast called The Darkest Timeline with his Community co-star Ken Jeong. In 2021, Joel began hosting Crime Scene Kitchen on Fox. In 2023, he hosted the reality competition show House of Villains on E!.
Acting Roles

After finishing his acting degree, Joel McHale moved to Los Angeles. He got small roles in TV shows like CSI: Miami and Will & Grace. He also had a small part in the movie Spider-Man 2 as a bank manager.
Joel became very famous for his role as Jeff Winger in the TV comedy Community. This show started in 2009 and ran for six seasons. He played a lawyer who had to go back to community college.
He has appeared in several movies, including Ted (2012) and The Happytime Murders (2018). From 2016 to 2017, he starred in the CBS sitcom The Great Indoors.
In 2018, Joel joined the Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet. He also played the superhero Starman in the DC Universe and The CW series Stargirl. He was a main character in the third season.

Personal Life
Joel McHale married Sarah Williams in July 1996. They have two sons together. The family lives in Studio City, Los Angeles. Joel has shared that he is dyslexic, which means he learns differently. He found this out when his sons were diagnosed.
He attends a Presbyterian church. Joel has also shown support for fairness and equality for all people. In 2020, he joined some of his Community co-stars in a video to support Joe Biden.
Helping Others
Joel McHale supports many charities and foundations. In 2021, he supported the Children's Tumor Foundation. This group helps raise awareness and find treatments for Neurofibromatosis, a condition that causes tumors to grow on nerves.
He has also supported organizations like DoSomething.org, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He helps groups like the Motion Picture & Television Fund and UNICEF.
