Michael Elliot Epps (born November 18, 1970) is an American comedian and actor. He is well-known for playing Day-Day Jones in the movies Next Friday and Friday After Next. He also appeared in The ... and The ... Part III as "Black Doug". Mike Epps was the voice of Boog in Open Season 2. He also played L.J. Wayne in the action films Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) and Resident Evil: Extinction (2007). More recently, he has starred in TV shows like Uncle Buck and The Upshaws.

Early Life
Mike Epps was born and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents are Mary Reed and Tommie Epps. When he was an adult, Epps moved to Brooklyn to start his comedy career. He appeared on Def Comedy Jam in 1994.
Career Highlights
Stand-Up Comedy
Mike Epps began his professional comedy career in 1995. He joined the Def Comedy Jam tour. He also appeared in two of HBO's Def Comedy Jam TV specials.
Acting Roles
Epps' first movie role was in Vin Diesel's film Strays in 1997. In 1999, he was chosen to co-star with Ice Cube in the movie Next Friday. Ice Cube saw Epps perform stand-up comedy and asked him to try out for the role of Day-Day Jones.
Later that year, Epps had a small role in 3 Strikes. He also supported Jamie Foxx in the movie Bait.
In 2001, Epps voiced Sonny the Bear in the film Dr. Dolittle 2. He also played Baby Powder in How High, starring Method Man and Redman. Epps worked with Ice Cube again in 2002 in All About the Benjamins. They also reunited for Friday After Next.
He played Lloyd Jefferson "L.J." Wayne in Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) and Resident Evil: Extinction (2007). Epps also voiced Boog in Open Season 2 in 2008. He had worked with Martin Lawrence before in Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (2008). In that movie, he played Reggie, Roscoe's cousin. ..... In 2010, he released a stand-up comedy special called Under Rated & Never Faded. He also hosted the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards.
In 2012, Epps starred with Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston in the movie Sparkle. This was his first serious role, where he played Satin. Critics and audiences liked his performance. Epps played Richard Pryor in the 2016 Nina Simone movie Nina. He also played Pryor in an episode of the HBO show Winning Time about the L.A. Lakers.
Epps starred in the comedy horror film Meet the Blacks in 2016. He also appeared in its 2021 sequel, The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2. He played the main character in the 2016 TV show Uncle Buck. Since 2021, he has been a main actor in the Netflix comedy series The Upshaws.

Mike Epps has been involved in music projects. He "hosted" the album A Tribute to Bad Santa Starring Mike Epps by Jim Jones and Skull Gang. Epps also made a song called "Trying to Be a Gangsta" with Pooh Bear.
He hosted G Unit's 2008 mixtape Elephant In The Sand. Epps also has a song called "Big Girls" from 2008. It is on his album, Funny Bidness: Da Album, which came out in 2009. Epps has also appeared on French Montana's Mac Wit Da Cheese mixtape. He was also featured on the Dom Kennedy song "Intro/Hard Work".
Parts of his stand-up comedy from Under Rated & Never Faded were used in songs. These include "I'm On Everything" by Bad Meets Evil and "Runaway" by J. Cole. Mike Epps has also appeared in many music videos. These include "Gangsta Nation" (2003) by Westside Connection and "A Bay Bay" (2007) by Hurricane Chris. He also appeared in "No Effort" (2017) by Tee Grizzley and "Bank Account" (2017) by 21 Savage.
Super Bowl XLVI
Mike Epps was the "Super Bowl ambassador" for his hometown of Indianapolis in 2012. This was for Super Bowl XLVI. He was in commercials promoting the Super Bowl Village. He also made special appearances there during the week of the Super Bowl.
Personal Life
Mike Epps married Kyra Robinson in June 2019. She is an executive at OWN Network and a producer for Iyanla: Fix My Life. Before that, he was married to Mechelle McCain. They got married in July 2006 and divorced in September 2017.
