Eric Marlon Bishop (born December 13, 1967), known as Jamie Foxx, is an American actor, comedian, and singer. He is famous for his work in movies, TV shows, and music. Jamie Foxx has won many awards, including an Academy Award and a Grammy Award.
He first became well-known in the early 1990s on the sketch comedy show In Living Color. After that, he created and starred in his own TV show, The Jamie Foxx Show, which ran from 1996 to 2001.
Jamie Foxx earned two Academy Award nominations in 2004. He was nominated for his roles in the movie Ray and the thriller Collateral. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for playing Ray Charles in Ray. He is the only Black actor to receive two Oscar nominations in the same year.
He has starred in many other films like Jarhead (2005), Dreamgirls (2006), and Django Unchained (2012). He also played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). In 2019, he played Walter McMillian in Just Mercy, earning another award nomination.
Besides acting, Foxx is also a successful R&B singer. He had two number-one songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: "Slow Jamz" with Twista and Kanye West, and "Gold Digger" with Kanye West. Early Life and Talents
Jamie Foxx was born in Terrell, Texas, on December 13, 1967. He was adopted and raised by his mother's adoptive parents, Esther Marie and Mark Talley. He grew up in a part of Terrell that was separated by race at the time. He often says his grandmother greatly influenced his success.
Foxx started playing the piano when he was five years old. He grew up in a strict Baptist family. As a teenager, he was a part-time pianist and choir leader at his church. His talent for telling jokes was clear even in third grade. His teacher would let him tell jokes if the class behaved well.
He went to Terrell High School, where he earned good grades. He also played basketball and was a quarterback in American football. He dreamed of playing for the Dallas Cowboys. He was the first player at his school to pass for over 1,000 yards. He also sang in a band called Leather and Lace. After high school, Foxx received a scholarship to United States International University. There, he studied music and performing arts.

Jamie Foxx first tried stand-up comedy in 1989. He used the stage name Jamie Foxx because he felt it sounded like it could be a man or a woman. This helped him get picked to perform more often. His last name was a tribute to the comedian Redd Foxx.

In 2012, Foxx starred in the movie Django Unchained, directed by Quentin Tarantino. He played the main character alongside Kerry Washington and Leonardo DiCaprio. Foxx said filming was emotional because it took place where his ancestors were treated unfairly.

Jamie Foxx has two daughters. His older daughter, Corinne Foxx, was born in 1994. She is a model, actress, and TV producer. His younger daughter, Anelise Bishop, was born in 2008. Corinne was named Miss Golden Globe in 2016.
In 2008, Foxx filmed a public service announcement to encourage food drives.
In January 2016, Jamie Foxx helped rescue a young man from a burning car that crashed near his home. The driver's truck had rolled over several times.
On October 26, 2020, Foxx announced that his sister Deondra Dixon had passed away. She was 36 years old and had Down syndrome. She was an ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.
Health Update
In April 2023, Jamie Foxx was hospitalized after a medical emergency. His daughter Corinne announced that he was recovering. He later shared that he had been through a very difficult time. In December 2023, he made his first public appearance since his hospitalization. He accepted an award and spoke about his recovery, saying he couldn't walk at first. In December 2024, he shared that he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
