Carl Terrell Mitchell (born November 27, 1973), known as Twista, is an American rapper. He is famous for his super-fast "chopper" rapping style. In 1992, Guinness World Records called him the fastest English-speaking rapper. He could say 598 syllables in just 55 seconds!

In 1997, Twista signed with Big Beat and Atlantic Records. He released his third album, Adrenaline Rush. In 1998, he started the group Speedknot Mobstaz. His 2004 album Kamikaze became very popular. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. This was thanks to his hit song "Slow Jamz" with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx. That song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Early Life

Carl Terrell Mitchell was born on November 27, 1973. He grew up in the K-Town area of Chicago, Illinois. Twista started rapping when he was only 12 years old.

Music Career

Early Music Journey

In 1992, Mitchell released his first album. It was called Runnin' Off at da Mouth. He used the name Tung Twista then.

His second album, Resurrection, was planned for 1994. But there were problems with his record label, Atlantic Records. Also, another rapper named Common had an album with the same name. So, Twista's album was mostly sold only in Chicago. It did not get much attention across the country.

Breaking Through

In 1996, Twista worked with Chicago producer the Legendary Traxster. They teamed up with the group Do or Die on the song "Po ...". This song became a big hit. This success helped Twista get a deal with Atlantic Records.

In 1997, Atlantic Records released Adrenaline Rush. By this time, Twista had dropped "Tung" from his name. Adrenaline Rush was his first album to appear on the music charts. It reached number 77 on the Billboard 200. The album also had a hit song called "Get It Wet". This song reached number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 1998, Twista formed the group Speedknot Mobstaz with other Chicago rappers. They released their first album, Mobstability, in 1998.

Reaching the Top

Starting in 2002, Twista began working on his album Kamikaze. He worked with famous rappers like Kanye West and Ludacris. Kamikaze came out in 2004. It went straight to number one on the US Billboard 200 album chart.

The first song from the album was "Slow Jamz". It featured Kanye West and Jamie Foxx. This song became a number-one hit in the US. Kamikaze sold about two million copies. This album and its songs made Twista much more famous in the rap world.
