Tremaine Aldon Neverson (born November 28, 1984), known as Trey Songz, is an American R&B singer and songwriter. He was discovered by producer Troy Taylor in 2003. That same year, Songz signed with Taylor's label, Songbook Entertainment, and Atlantic Records.
His first album, I Gotta Make It (2005), reached number 20 on the Billboard 200 chart. His second album, Trey Day (2007), went to number 11. The song "Can't Help but Wait" from Trey Day was a big hit, reaching number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Trey Songz's third album, Ready (2009), peaked at number three on the Billboard 200. It included the top ten hit "Say Aah" (featuring Fabolous). This album was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album at the Grammy Awards. His fourth album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure (2010), reached number two on the Billboard 200. Tremaine Aldon Neverson was born on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. His mother, April (Gholson) Tucker, was 17 when he was born. He was raised by his mother and stepfather.
As a child, Tremaine was shy and did not plan to become a musician. He once said that singing "wasn't a reality for me, until other people started noticing I sounded good." He realized his singing talent when he was 14 years old.

Starting Out: 2002–2006
After graduating from Petersburg High School in 2002, Trey Songz moved to New Jersey. He began recording his first album in 2003. That same year, producer Troy Taylor signed Songz to his label, Songbook Entertainment, which partnered with Atlantic Records.
Before his debut album, Songz released mixtapes under the name Prince of Virginia. One mixtape featured a song called "Open the Closet," which gained him attention. His first official song, "Gotta Make It" (featuring Twista), came out in March 2005. It did well in R&B music but was not a huge mainstream hit.
His first album, I Gotta Make It, was released on July 26, 2005. It sold 40,000 copies in its first week and reached number 20 on the Billboard 200. Continued Success: 2010–2012
In early 2010, Trey Songz started working on his fourth album, which he said would be his most personal. The first song, "Bottoms Up" (featuring Nicki Minaj), was released on July 27, 2010. It reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his biggest hit at that time. The song has been certified 3x Platinum.
Trey Songz began his first headlining tour, the Passion, Pain & Pleasure Tour, on August 6, 2010, with singer Monica. His fourth album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure, was released on September 14, 2010.
On August 18, 2011, Trey Songz announced he was working on his fifth album, Chapter V. He said it was almost finished and that fans could expect "the best me you've ever heard." On his 27th birthday, November 28, 2011, Songz released his Inevitable EP. This EP helped prepare for the album's release. In February 2012, Songz went on his Anticipation 2our to promote his mixtape Anticipation 2 and his new album. He also acted in the film Texas Chainsaw 3D, which was released in January 2013.
Chapter V was released on August 21, 2012. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 135,000 copies. This was Trey Songz's first album to top the chart. The album's main song, "Heart Attack", was released on March 26, 2012. It reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its music video featured Kelly Rowland.
Recent Albums: 2013–Present
In June 2013, Trey Songz confirmed he was working on his sixth album. On Christmas Day, he released the song "Na Na". In February 2014, he released "Ordinary" featuring Young Jeezy. He was also featured on a remix of Mariah Carey's song "You're Mine (Eternal)". In March 2014, Songz released "SmartPhones", the second song from his album. On July 1, 2014, Trey Songz released his sixth album, Trigga. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 105,000 copies in its first week.
On May 18, 2015, Songz released the album Intermission I & II digitally. His album Tremaine was released on March 24, 2017. This album is named after his birth name, Tremaine Aldon Neverson. It has 15 songs and features fellow artist MIKExANGEL on "Games We Play."
On April 29, 2020, Trey Songz released "Back Home" featuring Summer Walker. This song was produced by Hitmaka. On June 5, 2020, he released "2020 Riots: How Many Times" in response to important events happening in the world. On August 14, Songz released "Circles," produced by Troy Taylor. Trey Songz's eighth album, Back Home, was released on October 9, 2020.
