Early Life and Music Beginnings
Tremaine Aldon Neverson was born on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. His mother, April Tucker, was 17 when he was born. He was raised by his mother and stepfather. As a child, Trey Songz was shy and did not plan to be a singer. He once said, "Singing wasn't a reality for me, until other people started noticing I sounded good." He realized he could sing when he was 14 years old. Even though he was shy, his friends and family encouraged him to perform in high school.

While making his first album in 2004, Songz released several mixtapes. He used the name Prince of Virginia. His first album, I Gotta Make It, came out on July 26, 2005.
