Nicolás "Nico" Laprovíttola, born on January 31, 1990, is a professional basketball player from Argentina. He plays as a Point guard or shooting guard for FC Barcelona Bàsquet in Spain's top league, Liga ACB, and also in the EuroLeague. He is an important member of the Argentina national basketball team.

Nicolás Laprovíttola's Basketball Journey

Starting Out in Argentina

Nicolás Laprovíttola began his basketball career with Deportivo Morón. At 17, he joined Lanús. In 2007, he made his professional debut with Lanús in Argentina's second division. His team earned a promotion to the top Argentine League that same season.

In the 2012–13 season, Laprovíttola led Lanús to the Argentine League Finals. Even though his team didn't win the championship, his skills stood out. He played for six seasons with Club Atlético Lanús, showing great promise.

Playing in Brazil: Flamengo

In 2013, Laprovíttola moved to Brazil to play for Flamengo. He was very excited about this new step in his career. In 2014, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. This award showed how important he was to his team's success.

Adventures in Europe: Lithuania and Spain

In August 2015, Laprovíttola signed a one-year contract with the Lithuanian club Lietuvos rytas. Later that year, in December, he moved to Spain. He joined the Spanish club Estudiantes and played there until the end of the 2016–17 season.

A Short Time in the NBA: San Antonio Spurs

In September 2016, Nicolás Laprovíttola got a big chance. He signed with the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA. On November 5, 2016, he scored his season-high of 11 points in a game. He played in 18 games for the Spurs. In December 2016, he left the team.

Back to Spain and Russia

After his time in the NBA, Laprovíttola returned to Spain. In January 2017, he signed with Baskonia for the rest of the season.

In July 2017, he moved to Russia to play for Zenit Saint Petersburg. In January 2018, he was loaned to Club Joventut in Spain's Liga ACB. He later signed a full one-year deal with Joventut in August 2018.

During the 2018–19 season, Laprovíttola had an amazing year with Joventut. He was named the Liga ACB MVP, which means he was the best player in the league. He also led the league in scoring that season.

In July 2019, he joined one of Spain's biggest clubs, Real Madrid. He played for Real Madrid for two seasons before moving on in July 2021.

Playing for FC Barcelona

In July 2021, Laprovíttola made a big move to FC Barcelona, a major rival of Real Madrid. He signed a two-year contract, which was later extended until 2026.

In the 2022–23 season, he helped Barcelona win the Liga ACB championship. In April 2024, he made a game-winning three-pointer against Maccabi Tel Aviv. This shot helped Barcelona secure a spot in the 2024 EuroLeague Playoffs.

Unfortunately, in October 2024, Laprovíttola suffered a knee injury during a Liga ACB game. Tests showed he had a sprained knee ligament. He later needed surgery for a torn cruciate ligament, which meant he would miss the rest of the 2024–25 season.

Playing for Argentina: National Team Career

Nicolás Laprovíttola has also had a very successful career playing for his home country, Argentina.

Youth and Early Senior Career

He played for Argentina's junior national team in 2008. They won a gold medal at the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship. This win helped them qualify for the 2009 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He also played in the 2011 Pan American Games.

In 2012, he joined the senior men's Argentina national basketball team. He won a gold medal at the 2012 South American Championship. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship and a silver medal at the 2014 South American Championship. He played in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Major Tournaments and Medals

Laprovíttola continued to represent Argentina in many important tournaments. He won a silver medal at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship. He also played in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

In 2019, he was part of the team that won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Lima. He also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, which took place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A highlight from that tournament was scoring 27 points against Spain.

In 2022, Laprovíttola helped Argentina win another gold medal at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup in Brazil. He was one of the starting guards for the team in this tournament.

Personal Life

Nicolás Laprovíttola is the son of Margarita Stolbizer, a well-known politician from Argentina.
