Nicolás "Nico" Laprovíttola (born January 31, 1990) is a professional basketball player from Argentina. He plays for FC Barcelona in Spain's top league, Liga ACB, and in the EuroLeague. He is also a key member of the Argentina national basketball team.

Nicolás Laprovíttola's Basketball Journey

Starting Out at Club Atlético Lanús (2007–2013)

Nicolás began his basketball career with Deportivo Morón. At 17, he joined Lanús. He made his professional debut with Lanús in 2007. That year, his team earned a promotion to Argentina's top basketball league.

In the 2012–13 season, Nicolás led Lanús to the Argentine League Final Series. Even though his team played well, they lost to a more experienced team, Regatas Corrientes. Nicolás played for six seasons with Club Atlético Lanús.

Playing for Flamengo in Brazil (2013–2015)

In 2013, Nicolás was excited to join Flamengo, a well-known team in Brazil. He quickly made a big impact. In 2014, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. This is a big award for a player in an international club competition.

Time in Lithuania and Spain (2015–2016)

On August 2, 2015, Nicolás signed a one-year contract with the Lithuanian team Lietuvos rytas. Later that year, on December 31, 2015, he moved to Spain. He joined the Spanish club Estudiantes and played there until the end of the 2016–17 season.

Brief Time with the San Antonio Spurs (2016)

On September 26, 2016, Nicolás got a chance to play in the NBA. He signed with the San Antonio Spurs in the United States. He played in 18 games for the Spurs. His best game was on November 5, 2016, when he scored 11 points against the Los Angeles Clippers. He also spent a short time with the Spurs' minor league team, the Austin Spurs. On December 27, 2016, he left the Spurs.

Back to Spain and Russia (2017–2021)

After his time in the NBA, Nicolás returned to Europe. On January 18, 2017, he signed with the Spanish club Baskonia for the rest of that season.

In July 2017, he moved to Russia to play for Zenit Saint Petersburg. In January 2018, he was loaned to Club Joventut in Spain's Liga ACB. He liked it there so much that he signed a new one-year deal with Joventut in August 2018.

The 2018-19 season was a huge success for Nicolás. He was named the Liga ACB MVP, which means he was the best player in the entire league! He also led the league in scoring that season.

On July 9, 2019, Nicolás joined one of Spain's biggest teams, Real Madrid. He played there for two seasons before leaving in July 2021.

Playing for FC Barcelona (2021–Present)

In July 2021, Nicolás made a big move. He joined FC Barcelona, a rival team of Real Madrid. He signed a two-year contract, which was later extended until 2026.

In the 2022-23 season, he helped Barcelona win the 2023 ACB finals, becoming the league champions. On April 4, 2024, Nicolás hit a game-winning three-pointer against Maccabi Tel Aviv. This shot helped Barcelona secure a spot in the 2024 EuroLeague Playoffs.

In October 2024, Nicolás unfortunately hurt his knee during a Liga ACB game. Tests showed he had a knee ligament sprain. He had surgery later that month for torn cruciate ligaments, which meant he could not play for the rest of the 2024-25 season.

Playing for Argentina's National Team

Nicolás has proudly represented his home country, Argentina, in many international basketball tournaments.

• In 2008, he played for Argentina's junior team at the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship. They won a gold medal and qualified for the 2009 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.
• In 2012, he won a gold medal with the senior men's team at the South American Championship.
• He also won a bronze medal at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship and a silver medal at the 2014 South American Championship.
• Nicolás played in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
• In 2019, he helped Argentina win the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Lima.
• He also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, which happened in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In one game, he scored 27 points against Spain.
• In 2022, Nicolás won another gold medal with Argentina at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup in Brazil. He was one of the starting guards for the team.
