Nicolae Guță (born on December 3, 1967) is a famous Romanian Roma singer. He is known for his music style called manele and comes from the city of Petroșani.
Nicolae Guță's Music Journey
Guță began his music career in the late 1980s. He started as a singer and played the accordion. At first, he performed a traditional Romanian music style called lăutărească music.
Early Albums and First Hits
His first album came out in 1992. Just two years later, he had his first big hit song. It was called "De când te iubesc pe tine," which means "Since I've Been Loving You" in English. This song was part of his second album.
In 1996, Guță released an album specifically for people outside Romania. This album was released in France. While music reviewers in Romania did not say much about his music, journalists in other countries really liked it. They even called his music a modern kind of Gypsy jazz. This new style included instruments like electric guitars and synthesizers.
Exploring Manele Music
Around 1998, Nicolae Guță became very interested in manele music. Manele is a type of Balkans folk music that is popular for dancing. It has influences from Turkish and Arab pop music. It is similar to music styles found in other countries, like "turbo-folk" in former Yugoslavia or "chalga" in Bulgaria.
Guță played a big part in making manele music more popular. It was a new music trend at the time. He also added influences from Western pop and hip hop music to his songs. Some of his well-known songs include "Aș renunța," "Am greșit și eu," "Dacă vrei," and "Doar tu."
In 2007, Guță created his own version of a song called "Lejla." The original song was performed by Hari Mata Hari and came in third place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Guță renamed his version "Cine ești?" which means "Who Are You?"
