Early Life and Learning
Nicole Rinehart studied how people think and feel. She earned her master's degree in clinical psychology from Deakin University in 1996. Later, in 2000, she got her PhD from Monash University. Her PhD focused on how the brain affects behavior.
For her PhD, she looked at how children with autism and Asperger's disorder move their bodies. She wanted to understand their movements better. This research helped measure movement difficulties in these conditions.
Helping Children Through Her Work
Professor Rinehart teaches about clinical psychology at Deakin University. She also helps with research at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. And she teaches at Monash University.
She has written many papers about autism, Asperger's disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She works a lot with the community. This includes helping at the Melbourne Children's Clinic. She also works with schools often. She is on the board of directors for Autism Victoria (AMAZE). She has also helped create important health guidelines for ADHD and developmental disabilities in Australia.
Sports for All Children
Professor Rinehart recently started a big project with the Australian Football League (AFL). This project helps children with disabilities play sports. It is called 'allplay.org.au'. This website helps make sports more welcoming for everyone. This project gets money from Moose Toys and the National Disability Insurance Agency.
Helping Kids Sleep Better
Professor Rinehart also leads a research study called 'Sleeping Sound with Autism'. This study is funded by the NHMRC, a health research group. She works with the Murdoch Children's Research Institute on this. The study looks at a short program that helps children with autism sleep better. This program has already helped many children with sleep problems.
