The Nidau District was a special area in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Think of it like a county or a region that had its own local government. It was one of 26 such districts in the state of Bern. The main town, or capital, of this district was Nidau.
Most people in the Nidau District spoke German. However, a small group of people living there also spoke French. The district covered an area of about 88 square kilometers. In 2007, about 40,728 people lived in the Nidau District.
Towns and Villages
The Nidau District was made up of 25 different towns and villages, which are called municipalities in Switzerland. Each of these towns had its own local government, but they all worked together as part of the larger Nidau District. Some of the towns included Aegerten, Bellmund, Brügg, and Nidau itself, which was the biggest town.
The Nidau District no longer exists as a separate administrative area. In 2010, many districts in the canton of Bern were reorganized. The areas that were once part of the Nidau District are now part of new administrative regions.
