Nihon University (日本大学, Nihon Daigaku, lit. Japan University), often called Nichidai (日大), is a large private university in Japan. It started as Nihon Law School in 1889. This school was founded by Yamada Akiyoshi, who was the Minister of Justice at the time. The name "Nihon" means "Japan," so the university's name means "Japan University."
Today, Nihon University is one of the biggest universities in Japan. It has 16 colleges and many different departments. It also has 20 schools for advanced studies, a junior college, and a special division for learning by mail. The university has 32 research centers and three hospitals. More than 70,000 students attend Nihon University, making it the largest in Japan by student numbers.

What is Nihon University Like?
Most of Nihon University's campuses are in the Kantō region of Japan. Many of them are in or near Tokyo. There are also campuses in places like Shizuoka Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture. Each campus usually has one or two specific colleges. In December 2016, the university opened its first international campus in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
Nihon University is made up of many different colleges and institutes. It is well-known for training many successful business leaders in Japan. The College of Art, called Nichigei, is very famous. It is located near Ekoda train station in Tokyo. This college has helped many artists become famous in areas like photography, theater, and movies.
