Nikki Amuka-Bird (born on February 27, 1976) is a British actress known for her work in theater, television, and movies. She has appeared in many popular shows and films.

Early Life and Education

Amuka-Bird was born in Delta State, Nigeria. When she was a young child, she moved with her mother. She grew up in England, Lagos (a city in Nigeria), and Antigua.

She went to a boarding school in England called Hurtwood House. At first, Nikki wanted to be a professional dancer. However, she had to change her plans after an injury. She explained:

I hurt my back and at that point was deciding what to do... I thought I would try for drama college because I knew you could do some dancing there but it didn’t have to take over everything. It was only really when I went to drama college that that world [acting] opened up to me and I fell in love with it.

She was accepted into the famous London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) to study acting. After graduating, she began her career performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), a world-renowned theater group.

Nikki Amuka-Bird has had a successful career on the stage, on television, and in films.

Stage Acting

Amuka-Bird has performed in many plays. One of her most famous roles was playing Viola in Twelfth Night at the Bristol Old Vic theater. For this role, she was nominated for an Ian Charleson Award in 2004.

She has also acted in plays like Welcome to Thebes at the National Theatre in London. Her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company included plays like A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest.

Television and Film Roles

Amuka-Bird is also a familiar face on television. She has appeared in many British TV shows, including Spooks, Luther, and Silent Witness. She also had a role in an episode of the science-fiction show Torchwood.

In 2016, she starred in the TV movie NW, which was based on a novel by Zadie Smith. Her performance was so good that she was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress. In 2017, she was the voice of the Glass Woman in the Doctor Who Christmas special, "Twice Upon a Time". From 2020 to 2022, she played a main character, Rav Mulcair, in the HBO space comedy Avenue 5.

In movies, she has played a variety of characters. Some of her film roles include Dr. Becker in the horror movie The Omen (2006), Diomika Tsing in the science-fiction film Jupiter Ascending (2015), and Patricia in the thriller Old (2021). More recently, she appeared in the movies The Outfit (2022) and Knock at the Cabin (2023).

Personal Life

Amuka-Bird was married to fellow actor Geoffrey Streatfeild from 2003 until 2010.
