Nikolay Binev (Bulgarian: Николай Бинев; born July 5, 1934 – died December 8, 2003) was a famous Bulgarian actor. He starred in many plays and movies. For most of his life, he worked at the Mladezhki Theater in Sofia. He loved this theater very much. In 2006, the theater was even named after him to honor his memory.

Life and Acting Career
Nikolay Binev was born on July 5, 1934. His hometown was Sliven, Bulgaria. He studied acting at the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts. He finished his studies in 1958.
Starting in Theater
In 1959, Binev began his acting journey. He first spent a few months at the Ruse Theater. Soon after, he joined the Mladezhki Theater in Sofia. This theater became his artistic home. He stayed there for his entire career.
People who knew him said he was very special. Director Andrey Avramov called him "an encyclopedist." This means he knew a lot about many things. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. Binev was known for being kind and thoughtful with everyone.
Famous Theater Roles
At the Mladezhki Theater, Binev played many important roles. He brought characters to life in famous plays like:

- Amadeus by Peter Shaffer
- The Dresser by Ronald Harwood
- King John by Friedrich Dürrenmatt
- When the Roses Dance by Valery Petrov
His amazing work in theater earned him awards. He won the ASKEER award twice. This is a top Bulgarian award for theater art.
Film and TV Work
Nikolay Binev also had a successful film career. He started acting in movies in the early 1960s. One of his most notable films was Amendment to the Defense-of-State Act. This movie won the Golden Rose award in 1976.
He also played a memorable role in the TV series Nights with the White Horses. He played Academician Urumov. For this role, he received awards from the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers and the city of Sofia.
Later in his career, Binev worked on international films. He appeared in East/West (1999). This movie also starred the famous actress Catherine Deneuve.
Awards and Legacy
Nikolay Binev received a high government award. It was called the Order of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius. This award recognized his great contributions.
In 2004, after he passed away, the Mladezhki Theater honored him. They worked with his wife, Domna Ganeva. They released a CD called Nikolay Binev singing. This CD included songs he performed. It featured arias from Verdi's operas. It also had songs from the musical Yesterday.
Nikolay Binev died in 2003. He was 69 years old. He left behind a wonderful legacy in Bulgarian theater and film.
