Story of Nine Lives
Tom Brand is a very rich businessman in New York City. He works so much that his first marriage ended. He also has a difficult relationship with his grown-up son, David. David works for Tom and wants his dad's approval.
Tom now lives with his second wife, Lara, and his daughter, Rebecca. Lara is more understanding about Tom always being busy. Tom's company, FireBrand, is almost done building a huge skyscraper. It will be the tallest building in the northern part of the world.
A Special Birthday Gift
Rebecca's 11th birthday is coming soon. She really wants a cat, but Tom does not like cats. He always said no. This time, Tom wants to surprise her. He rushes to find a last-minute gift. His GPS sends him to a strange pet store called Purrkins Pet Shop. It is full of unusual cats.
The owner, Felix Perkins, is a bit odd. He tells Tom that the cat chooses the person, not the other way around. A tomcat named Mr. Fuzzypants picks Tom. Felix says this cat has already used up seven of its nine lives. Tom buys the cat.
Tom Becomes a Cat
On his way home, Tom meets Ian Cox. Ian is a top manager at Tom's company. They argue about the new skyscraper. Ian tells Tom that another building in Chicago will be taller. Tom fires Ian.
Suddenly, lightning strikes the building's antenna. Tom and the cat are thrown off the skyscraper. Tom's leg gets caught, and he crashes back inside through a window. He passes out. When Tom wakes up, he realizes something strange. His human body is in the hospital in a coma. His mind is now trapped inside the cat's body!
Life as Mr. Fuzzypants
Felix, the pet store owner, visits Tom. He can talk to Tom and knows what happened. Felix tells Tom he has one week to fix things with his family. If he does not, he will stay a cat forever.
Lara and Rebecca take Mr. Fuzzypants home. Tom, as the cat, acts very strangely. He tries to show his wife and daughter that he is really Tom. This only makes them upset. Tom slowly starts to see how much he has ignored his family.
He also worries that Lara might be leaving him for another man. This makes him want to make her happy. Tom also learns that Ian Cox is trying to take over his company. David is trying to stop Ian. Ian fires David and plans to sell the company.
Rebecca Knows the Truth
Eventually, Rebecca figures out that Mr. Fuzzypants is her dad. Meanwhile, Tom's body in the hospital is getting worse. Lara, David, and Rebecca all go to the hospital. Rebecca hides the cat in her backpack.
David feels bad about not saving the company. He takes Tom's ID badge, planning to jump off the tower himself. At the hospital, Lara and the doctor plan to turn off Tom's life support. Rebecca calls for the cat to prove he is Tom. But Tom remembers Felix's words about love being a sacrifice. He decides to save David instead of trying to become human again.
The Company is Saved
At the tower, David jumps off the building. The cat jumps after him, pulling a cable. It turns out David is wearing a special parachute. He lands in the middle of the party. David announces that he now controls his father's company. He says it will stay a family business and fires Ian.
Tom wakes up from his coma just in time to see David's announcement on TV. Ian Cox walks past Felix, who tells him to hang up his phone. Ian ignores him. Then, a car hits Ian. His mind also transfers into a cat! Felix takes this new cat back to his shop.
Tom and Rebecca go back to Felix's store. Tom asks if Felix has any dogs. Felix says no, but he shows them Mr. Fuzzypants. The cat now has only one life left.
