Nineveh, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Nineveh is a small, quiet place in Adair County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and people that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Nineveh Township, Adair County, Missouri.

The Story of Nineveh

Nineveh was started in 1849 by a group of German settlers. They came from a place nearby called Bethel, Missouri. These settlers had a special idea. They wanted to create a communal society. This means everyone in the group shared things and worked together for the good of all.

A few years later, in 1852, Nineveh even got its own post office! This was important for sending and receiving mail. But it only stayed open for about 30 years, closing in 1882. The community got its name from a very old and famous city. It was named after the ancient city of Nineveh, which was once a big city in a land far away.
