Raffaele Celeste "Nini" Rosso (born September 19, 1926 – died October 5, 1994) was a famous Italian jazz trumpet player and composer. He became well-known for his beautiful trumpet melodies. His music touched many people around the world.

Early Life and Music Career

Nini Rosso was born in a town called San Michele Mondovì, Italy. His parents wanted him to go to university. But when he was 19, Nini chose music instead. He loved playing the trumpet. He decided to leave home to follow his dream.

During World War II, Nini Rosso was a partisan. Partisans were groups of people who fought against the forces that had taken over their country. Nini worked with other brave people in the Valle Maira area.

After the war, Nini started working in nightclubs. One time, the police stopped his job. He went home for a short while. But soon, he left again to restart his music career. He quickly became one of Italy's best jazz trumpeters.

Rise to Fame

Nini Rosso became very popular in the 1960s. His music reached many countries. In 1962, his song "Concerto Disperato" became famous in the UK. Another musician, Ken Thorne, made a version of it. It was called "The Theme from 'The Legion's Last Patrol'". Nini's original song was also released and did well on the music charts.

His biggest hit was "Il Silenzio" (which means "The Silence"). This song became a worldwide success in 1965. It reached number one in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. By the end of 1967, it had sold over five million copies. This was a huge achievement! In the USA, it reached number 32 on the Billboard Charts in November 1965. He even received a special "gold disc" award for its success.

Besides playing music, Nini Rosso also acted in some movies during the 1960s.

Later Years and Legacy

Nini Rosso continued to share his musical talent. He passed away in 1994 at the age of 68. He died from lung cancer. Nini Rosso is remembered as a master of the trumpet. His songs, especially "Il Silenzio," are still loved by many people today.
