Niranjan Narhari Bhagat (born May 18, 1926 – died February 1, 2018) was a famous Indian poet and writer. He mainly wrote in the Gujarati language. He also wrote many poems in English, often inspired by the style of Gitanjali. In 1999, he won the important Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Gujarati Sahiyta – Purvardha Uttarardha. This award is one of the highest honors for writers in India.

Niranjan Narhari Bhagat was born in Ahmedabad, India, on May 18, 1926. He studied English Literature and earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1950.

After finishing his studies, Bhagat started working as a lecturer at L. D. Arts College. Later, in 1975, he became a professor of English at Saint Xavier's College in Ahmedabad. He taught there until he retired.

Bhagat was also very active in the world of Gujarati literature. He served as the president of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad from 1997 to 1998. This is a big organization for Gujarati writers. He was also a member of the Advisory Board for Gujarati at the Sahitya Akademi in Delhi from 1963 to 1967.

He received many awards for his writing. In 1953, he won the Narmad Suvarna Chandrak for his book Chhandolay. The most famous award he received was the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999 for his critical work Gujarati Sahiyta – Purvardha Uttarardha. Other awards he earned include the Kumar Suvarna Chandrak in 1949, the Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1969, the Premanand Suvarna Chandrak in 1998, the Sachchidanand Sanman in 2000, and the Narsinh Mehta Award in 2001.
