Nissin Chicken Ramen (also known as Nissin Chikin Ramen) is a very popular brand of instant noodles from Japan. It was the first instant noodle product ever sold! A company called Nissin Foods has been making it since 1958. The inventor, Momofuku Ando, came up with the idea after learning to cook tempura at his home in Ikeda, Osaka. You can mostly find Chicken Ramen in Japan, but some is also sent to other countries.

The Story of Instant Noodles

How Instant Noodles Began

Instant noodles were invented by a clever businessman named Momofuku Ando. He was from Taiwan and Japan. On August 25, 1958, his company, Nissin, started selling them. The first brand was called Chikin Ramen.

Making Noodles "Instant"

Momofuku Ando found a special way to make noodles "instant." He would flash-fry them after they were made. This process dried the noodles very quickly. It also made them last a long time on the shelf. They even lasted longer than frozen noodles!

A Special Treat

Each block of Chikin Ramen came with its flavor already in the noodles. It sold for 35 yen. At first, these instant noodles were seen as a fancy item. Fresh noodles in Japanese stores cost much less. But soon, instant noodles became super popular. A big company called Mitsubishi Corporation helped promote them.

What Makes Chicken Ramen Special?

Unlike many other instant noodles from Nissin, Chicken Ramen does not have separate seasoning packets. The yummy chicken flavor is already mixed into the noodles themselves! This makes it very easy to prepare.
