Early Career and "Ima Read"
Njena Surae Jarvis was born in Washington, D.C.. She moved to New York in the year 2000.
In 2012, she worked with Ojay Morgan on his song "Ima Read". They recorded the song quickly using a computer microphone. It was not re-recorded later.
On January 18, 2012, a music video for "Ima Read" was released. Ruben XYZ directed the video. The song quickly became very popular online.
In 2012, Njena Reddd Foxxx and Zebra Katz opened shows for Azealia Banks. They toured in the UK for her Fantasea tour. In May 2013, they also opened for the group Die Antwoord. They toured European festivals until August.
The song "Ima Read" was also used in fashion shows. It was featured in collections by Rick Owens and Alex Mattsson in 2012 and 2013.
Debut EP: Needful Things
After "Ima Read" became a success, Njena Reddd Foxxx started writing more songs. She released these songs on her SoundCloud account.
In September 2013, Jarvis appeared in a short film. She modeled for British designer Kitty Joseph. Her song "Watercolour" was used throughout the film.
On December 15, 2013, she released her first EP. It was called Needful Things. She worked with Jepordise, a producer from London, on this EP.
